Playschool , Secondary School and College are just about the only topics that are talked about in our house for the last week or so. It started first with the stress of hoping the eldest little farmer would get enough points in his leaving to get to do the college course he wanted. So myself and the farmer were awake early like two kids on Christmas morning with our fingers and toes crossed for him. He was delighted with the points he got and it was enough to do the course he wanted in Waterford. So the next stress was waiting to see if Waterford offered him a place on their Ag science course but in the mean time we had to go and find him somewhere to stay down there because if we left it till the places were announced there might be no where close to the college for him to stay. We were awake here the morning of the offers at 5.30am and he was given a place in Waterford. So on Monday he has to move all his stuff into his apartment near the college to get ready to start his next big life adventure next Friday. I haven’t had time yet to really think about him moving out from home because we are just so busy trying to make sure he has everything he needs but it will be very strange in the house even though its only during the week he will be away .
The middle little farmer is going into transition year in his school , this is a year between their junior cert and the senior cycle years. It gives them a chance to try new subjects , get work experience in what they might like to do after school and also gives them a chance to mature a little before they start all the work for their leaving certs. They say kids who do this year get 100 points more in their leaving than those who don’t. In second year the middle farmer was sure he wasn’t going to do this year he was going to go straight into 5th year but as last year went on and he thought more about the transition year subjects and what he would get to try out he decided he wanted to do it . I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea because I was afraid it was going to be a year off as such. We went to a school meting and transition year is far from being a year off. So it was agreed that if we were going to pay the 900 euro for the year he was going to have to get involved in everything that was going on the only one he wouldn’t agree to do was debating . So today as we were talking about going back to school he was starting to get excited about it , he was not happy yesterday at all and I think he is really going to miss his older brother they are very close. One of the things they do in this year is start their own business , this he was excited about today . He is going to start his business setting up social media things for students , the school and local businesses . So I have everything crossed for him that it will fall into place for him.
The littlest farmer then is due to go back to playschool next week but because we have all the college stuff with the eldest farmer he will be starting a few days later. He is down to do five mornings a week but think I will have to start him on three and work him up to the five. He went yesterday to get his hair cut and I made the mistake of saying it was for school and all day yesterday he kept telling me he wasn’t going to school he was staying at home. I have a new school bag for him and a new lunchbox with lots of farm animals on it so I am hoping this will encourage him to go for the first day at least. He is really taking after the eldest farmer who cried everyday for his first year in playschool and nearly everyday for his first year in school !!!!. I am looking forward to having three mornings free this year and maybe even five if I can get him to go because I have a lot of work to do on horses on the mornings he is in school, when he is here I cant even sit on a horse till he is out with his hat telling me to get down because he is going to ride .
So for the next week or so there will be nothing but school and college stuff in this house until it all settles into its routine .
